He moved from Cleveland Heights to Green Valley, and went golfing three or four times a week at the Haven Country Club. He also conducted seminars for the staff of the Green Valley newspaper and raised money 1 for local charities. He died at a Tucson hospital on Sept. 1 after several years of illness with cancer. He was 72.

He chose the editing rather than the writing of news as his career path and worked his way up through the copy desk. After a brief stint as a reporter at the Buffalo Evening News he to the copy desk a and from there went to the copy desk of the old New York Sun. At the Press, which he joined in 1946, he was the guardian of grammar and put out a newsletter for the staff entitled Tips and Slips. in my obituary that I tried to get people to use 'hopefully' correctly," he used to he was Irish, he used a green felttip pen, and reporters got used to getting clippings of their stories with comments in the familiar green ink. The Press promoted him to news editor 1961; to assistant managing editor in 1968 and to managing editor about two years later.

He was a graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo and the Columbia University School of Journalism. He taught journalism in night classes at John Carroll University for many years. Each year in Green Valley he laid out a special section of the newspaper for the Green Valley Country Fair, held to raise funds for G.H. Kline, 70, set up programs in dietetics 'Gwendolyn Hardman Kline returned from early retirement in 1964 to set up a graduate dietetics internship program for Western Reserve University at University, Mount Sinai and Cleveland Veterans hospitals. Two years later she became director of the dietetic interns program at the veterans hospi-1 tal and worked another 16 years before again retiring in 1982.

Mrs. Kline, 70, died Monday in the emergency room of Huron Road Hospital after collapsing at her home in Cleveland Heights. She had heart problems during the past two years. Services will be tomorrow at 1 p.m. Brown-Forward funeral home, 17022 Chagrin Shaker Heights.

Mrs. Kline was two-thirds of the way through her last year at the University of Akron when she quit to get married. Years later, she enrolled at WRU and in 1954 graduated with a degree in chemistry. She taught nutrition classes while working for a master's degree in public health nutrition, which she got in 1957. She was a dietitian at Mount Sinai until her first retirement in 1963.

She was a gourmet cook and helped recipes for a Friends of the Veterans Administration cookbook. She used to take out-of-town students to the West Side Market and on early morning visits to the produce distribution center on the East Side. She was a member of the Cleveland Dietetics Association. Surviving are a daughter, Paula son, George of Minneapolis; a granddaughter; and two brothers. Her husband, Paul died in 1968.

DEATHS ELSEWHERE FPOM WIRE REPORTS NAPA, Calif. Pro golfer Rod Funseth, who won more than $600,000 during his career on the regular PGA tour and continued to play on the senior circuit after discovering he had terminal cancer, died at 52. Funseth was a consistent winner on the Professional Golfers Association tour for close to 20 years and won three tour events, the 1965 Phoenix Open, the 1973 Los Angeles Open and the 1978 Greater Hartford Open. He set the competitive course record at Pebble Beach, an 8-under-par 64 in the 1972 Bing Crosby National Pro-Am. The record stood until 1983, when Tom Kite shot a 62 in the same tournament.

He was a past president of the fair. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn; sons, Michael of Green Valley, Patrick of Cleveland, and Sean of Louisville, three grandchildren; three brothers; and a sister. Services were in Arizona. Vickie Y. Zelman, dancer Vickie York Zelman's dedication to dancing, which she taught for more than 40 years, guided her life and netted her the nickname, Sgt.

York. Mrs. Zelman, a former Arthur Murray teacher, taught dance to school children and adults here for many years. She used her maiden name professionally. She was tough but smooth.

She died Sunday in the Kaiser Foundation HospitalParma two days after her 67th birthday. Her death ended a three-year fight with cancer. Despite the illness, friends said Mrs. Zelman, who lived on Champion Ave. in Cleveland, continued her teaching until last May.

She was born in Madison, and graduated from high school in Pittsburgh in 1936. She headed for New York City, where she worked for a short time as a Connors model, specializing in fashions for tall women. She was 6 feet tall. I She went to work for Arthur Murray and acted as his representative, training dance teachers at franchised Arthur Murray studios throughout the country. In 1947, during a stop in Cleveland, she met Elmer Zelman, a local musician, who became her husband.

Eventually, she started giving group dance lessons here. Mrs. Zelman loved to cook, and she would prepare imaginative dinners that she froze for her husband to reheat and eat when she was off giving dancing lessons. Mrs. Zelman is survived by her husband, a brother and two sisters.

Services will be at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, West Blvd. and Lorain Monday at 7 p.m. Sister M. Lucina, aided ill Zelman Services for Sister M.

Lucina, 68, pastoral minister to the sick, shut-in and bereaved of St. Clare Catholic Parish, will be tomorrow at p.m. in the motherhouse chapel of the Ursuline Nuns of Cleveland, 2600 Lander. Pepper Pike. Sister Lucina died Sunday at Hillcrest Hospital after being bit by a car on Mayfield Rd.

near St. Clare Church. She entered the Ursuline order in 1936. as Agnes Heiland from St. Ignatius Parish.

She began teaching at the old St. Marian Parochial School in 1937 and taught at 12 different schools before becoming pastoral minister in 1977. She taught at St. Williams Parochial School in Euclid from 1966 to 1972 and at St. Clare School from 1972 to 1977.

She graduated from old St. John College in 1949 and got a master's degree there in 1955. Two of her sisters joined the same order. Sister Johanna, a tutor at St. Joseph Parochial School in Avon Lake, survives.

Teacher John G. Carroll John G. Carroll was a math teacher int the Cleveland school system for 40 years and was chairman of the math department of South High School at his retirement in 1975. Mr. Carroll, 72, had been ill for some months with a heart ailment.

He died his sleep at his Pepper Pike bome where his body was found Monday. He was last seen Saturday. He was born in Cleveland and graduated from Cathedral Latin School. He graduated from the University of Dayton before beginning his teaching career here. After World War I he earned a master's degree from Western Reserve University.

He served with the Army in the Philippines from 1943 to 1945. He was in the Army Reserves for many years and held the rank of major. After he retired, Mr. Carroll taught math part time at Cuyahoga Community College until his wife, May, became ill last year. She died last September.

He is survived by his sister, Jeanne Carroll, of Shaker Heights. Services will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Shaker Heights. DAILY ISSUES Death P.M.
