Then in her 20s, she was impressed favorably by the new leaders of Nazi Germany but her later disillusionment was reflected in her book. In the early 1950s she and Stern became persistent targets of Sen. Joseph. R. McCarthy, in his anti-Communist investigations.

When they were indicted on espionage charges in 1957, they fled to Prague, EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. Julian Abbott, an interior designer, died Southampton (N.Y.) Hospital. He was 64 and had lived in East Hampton. He died of complications from AIDS, family members said. Abbott, who was born in Cleveland, was a graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, and of Yale.
