(216) 999-5555 Death Notices ESCHUK BETTY ESCHUK. Date of death: July 10, 2004 at her home in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Nat King Cole said it best unforgettable.

This word best describes Mary Eschuk, better known as Betty or Bette to her grandchildren, Logan Persons and Anna Eschuk. From an early age, Betty found herself trying to manage her brother, Lloyd and sisters, Janet, Karen and Del. Later, when she met Steve Eschuk at Brooklyn High School, where she was a cheerleader and he was a track star, a new partnership began. On Oct. 22, 1948, Betty and Steve were married in Cleveland's Old Stone Church with best friends, Joe and Lois Pucci, as their witnesses.

In next management position, Betty was mother to Holly Rose, Lauren Persons and Steven Eschuk. When her son Steven was sent off to school, it was her turn. Betty managed home and demanding school requirements to earn her Bachelor's Degree. While working as an English teacher at Normandy High School, Betty earned her Master's Degree and superintendent's license. After a stint as assistant principal at Schaaf and Hillside Junior High Schools, Betty was appointed to her dream job as the first woman principal of Parma Senior High School.

Later, her family was enriched by the addition of Shari Eschuk and Tom Rose. Along with a very full schedule, she was able to squeeze in some time to pursue one of her greatest loves writing. Her poetry, plays and song lyrics have been used by several area theaters. Upon retirement in 1993, Betty spent more time at her home in New Smyrna Beach, reading, gardening and spending time with family, friends and her beloved dog, Geraldine. This unforgettable woman who never was at a loss for words, held a deep commitment to education and young people.

She considered herself a feminist from birth, mentoring women to become strong and independent, encouraging them to reach their full potential. A special service to toast this unforgettable woman will be held on FRIDAY, JULY 16 FROM 4-7 P.M. at her New Smyrna Beach home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Atlantic Center for the Arts, 1414 Art Center New Smyrna Beach, FL. 32168.
