His total was the most by any member of the team in the exhibition series.

"The fans have always treated me with much respect here in Indiana. I do think we have the best fans in the professional game," Miller said. "To have 35,000 plus, it was a great moment." The Greeks, who were 6-3 in previous exhibition games, never drew closer than 11 points. Helped by nine first-half steals, including three by Miller, the Dream Team led, 74-34, at halftime, shooting 62 percent (26-of42). Greece shot 34.5 (10-of-29) in the opening half and was outrebounded, 28-15.

The Dream Team had six players finish in double figures. Karl Malone had 19, followed by Grant Hill with 15. "We're very confident that we're going in, and we're going to win," Charles Barkley said. "They may consider it arrogrant. We're going to go in and we're going to win the gold medal." "Coach wanted me to come out and get things started," said Gary Payton, a late addition to the Dream Team after Milwaukee's Glenn Robinson withdrew with an injury.

Pattison, Weaver earn wins Favorites finish first in North Coast Nautilus Duathlon By JACK McDERMOTT PLAIN DEALER REPORTER Defending champion Frank Pattison, 25, of North Olmsted was in good form yesterday morning at the 11th annual North Coast Nautilus Duathlon, covering the 5K run, 16-mile bike, 5K run course in 1:12.32 to notch his second title in four tries at the Avon Lake event.

Meanwhile, world-class triathlete Kim Weaver, 37, of Avon Lake was in her usual form, winning the women's division of the Duathlon with a time of 1:21.16. Weaver, who qualified last month for the United States Triathlon (age 35-39) team in California, has competed in all 11 North Coast Nautilus events, winning the last eight open division titles. "Things went well today," Pattison said. "I just took off at the start and never felt threatened." Pattison won last year's event with a 1:12.16 clocking. His near-.

est competitor yesterday was Chuck Hull, who finished the course in 1:15.20. "The competition here is getting better each year," Pattison said. "And, maybe because I'm running close to home, I feel a little more comfortable here. I competed in the Columbus Duathlon about a month ago, and I finished 18th overall in a field of over 1,000 runners. "There were more runners there because it was a national event, but the competition wasn't that much better, taking into consideration there were a lot more Hirschman Architechts 13-7, 9-9 The Firm George Wally 6-9 Rainbow Muffler 12-21, Champs Chumps 5-18 Knights 36-14, Solomons 2-3 Local 268 15-12, Van Gorter Manor 3-0 Mel Gross Place 11-10, Rainbow Hosp 6-4 Bad Habits 9-6, Lith AC 7-12 Dean Supply 7-13, Ridge Ad Auto 1-11 Diorios Sheet Metal 15-14.

Yesterday's event had 124 runners, including participants from Texas and Alabama. Pattison, who operates his own landscaping business, admitted he has a hard time training during the summer. "I try to work in two workouts a day, usually a run in the morning and a swim in the evening, but this is a busy time of the year for me.

"I'm just lucky that my wife, Sheryl, is so understanding and supportive," he said. "She's my agent and photographer. I do the running, and she keeps track of my schedule, and takes the pictures." Pattison and Weaver are members of the Bayside Cycle and Sports team. Weaver competes each year as part of her training ritual for the National City Triathlon, which this year brings the World Championship to Cleveland. "I'm thrilled to death to have made the national triathlon team and the opportunity of representing the United States," Weaver said.

"I'll be taking on the best runners in the world right in my own back yard." Weaver, who made the U.S. team for the sixth time since 1989, had to qualify for the squad in Orange City, Calif. "The course was a nightmare," she said. "I knew there'd be hills to contend with, but I was floored when I saw them. 11-6 Brooklyn Hts.

I thought running up it that I could relax once I reached the top. However, the run down was twice as hard as the run up, because you had to keep putting on the brakes so you wouldn't fall down.

And we had to run it twice." Yesterday's flat course through Avon Lake was a welcome test. "I've been cutting back on the number of events I compete in," Weaver said. "I recently got my nursing degree, and that took up a good deal of my time. But the real stickler is the cost of travel to compete in these events. I've made the U.S.

team several times in both the triathlon and duathlon, but the cost of travel was prohibitive, so I stayed home. "Now, with the world championship right here in Cleveland, I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and having the top runners from 45 countries coming here to compete against me at my place." Weaver, however, admitted she was a little concerned about this year's qualifying. "Lets face it," she said, "I'm not getting any younger. In fact, I'm the oldest qualifier in my age group, and I' finished 11th of the 12 runners that qualified. I didn't have a good run, but I'm thrilled to death because I made it."
